New York (dpa) – A 30-day hunger strike by three Tibetans to protest Chinese policy in Tibet was ended following an intervention by the United Nations human rights chief, the UN said Friday. The UN said High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay in Geneva had sent a private letter to the protesters, who ended their protest. The letter was not made public. The three hunger strikers staged the protest in a plaza facing the UN headquarters in New York, but one of them was removed and transferred to a hospital last week by New York police because of his deteriorated physical condition. The remaining two protesters were removed Thursday night. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Pdy9a Tags: China, Monks, Strike, Tibet, UN Section: East Asia, Human Rights, Latest News
