Hong Kong (dpa) – A Hong Kong lawmaker faces losing his seat after being sentenced to two months in jail Tuesday for disrupting a public forum and causing criminal damage in September. Leung Kwok-hung, a democracy campaigner known as Long Hair, could be voted out by fellow members of the city's Legislative Council. Four other activists who joined Leung when he barged into the meeting received three-week sentences. The meeting had been organized by the government to consult the public on a proposal to scrap by-elections after Leung and democratic lawmakers resigned their seats in January 2010 to force a de facto referendum on universal suffrage. A legislator sentenced to more than more than one month in prison can be disqualified by two-thirds of the council.
