Sana'a (dpa) – Former president Ali Abdullah Saleh vowed his support for newly-elected president Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi during a power transfer ceremony held Monday. “We will continue to support the president to rebuild what the crisis has destroyed,” Saleh said during the ceremony. “We call on all fellow countrymen to stand beside the political leadership,” said Saleh, who retains his post as the head of the General People's Congress party. The opposition Joint Meeting Parties coalition announced Sunday that they were boycotting the ceremony because of Saleh's presence. Saleh returned from the United States on Friday after weeks of medical treatment. Hadi was sworn in office on Saturday, after he received 99.8 per cent of the vote in Tuesday's presidential election, in which he was the sole candidate.
