SINGAPORE: Dozens of Malaysian Muslims on Friday gathered in the capital Kuala Lumpur to denounce the burning of copies of the Koran in Afghanistan by American troops. The protesters, carrying placards which read “Respect Quran” and “Damn You, US Army” also chanted anti-US slogans. The rally was led by the youth wing of the opposition party Parti Islam Semalaysia, which described the act of the US soldiers as deeply insulting to Islam. US President Barack Obama has apologized to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for the incident, which occurred on February 20 inside a US airbase in Afghanistan. He promised to take steps to prevent such incidents in future. At least 12 people have been killed in protests against the troops' burning of Islam's holiest book as police and military forces attempt to quell the unrest that has grown over the past four days in Afghanistan. The burning of the Qur'an, Sheikh Mohamed Yussif in Kuala Lumpur told Bikyamasr.com, “has shown how the US disregards culture and religion in their wars and this is the end of their violence against Muslims.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/0s1Ku Tags: Burning, Islam, Malaysia, Protest, Qur'an Section: East Asia, Latest News, Religion
