New York (dpa) – Harry Potter author J K Rowling is working on a new book, publisher Little, Brown and Company said Thursday. But young fans of the teenage wizard may be disappointed in the announcement made on the publisher's Facebook page. The new book will be the author's first adult novel and may be unsuitable for younger readers. There were few details for older readers to get excited about either. Little, Brown and Company said that the book's title and release date would be announced later this year. In an online statement Rowling said the book would be “very different” from the Harry Potter series. “The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me,” she said, calling it a “new phase of my writing life.” Publisher David Shelly said he was “thrilled, honored and proud” to be publishing the new book. “(Rowling) is one of the best storytellers in the world, and I am looking forward enormously to helping bring her new novel for adults to her fans and admirers, and to introducing her writing to new readers the world over,” he said in a statement. He can also look forward to what is likely to be a blockbuster. Rowling's seven Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, and are considered the best-selling book series in history. The books have also spawned a hugely successful cinematic franchise that climaxed with the 2011 film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 — and which has racked up more than 7 billion dollars in box office receipts.
