Dubai (dpa) – The head of the Dubai-based club Al Wasl, Marwan bin Bayat, Wednesday denied strains in ties with with coach Diego Maradona after the Argentine recently threatened to quit coaching the team over a restrictive budget for transfers. “Our relations with Maradona are strong. We are keen to eliminate all obstacles facing the team,” bin Bayat told dpa. Earlier in February, Maradona complained that he was not able to sign players for Al Wasl due to a limited budget. “Next season I will not accept a small budget. We need a big budget to give us a boost and added value to make us competitive. Without this, I may be forced to submit my resignation to the chairman,” Maradona told reporters in Dubai. Bin Bayat said: “We have asked Maradona at a recent meeting to list and forward to us all his proposals to develop the team in the next season.” Maradona has been coaching Al Wasl since May under a two-year contract.
