DUBAI: Ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for Thursday, at least 17 people were injured when protesters and security forced clashed at a private television station, the al-Quds newspaper reported on Wednesday. According to the report, the protesters had attacked the al-Watan TV headquarters late on Tuesday night, accusing the broadcaster of inciting sedition in the Gulf emirate. Tear gas was fired into the crowd in order to disperse the protesters after they attempted to break into the building, the newspaper said. The government was expected Wednesday to hold a crisis meeting on the incident, the paper reported, quoting well-informed sources. Kuwaitis are to go to polls on Thursday to elect a new 50-seat parliament – the fourth in six years in the oil-rich country. Around 276 parliamentary hopefuls, including 22 women, are contesting the election, according to figures from the Higher Election Commission. In December, Kuwait's ruler Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah dissolved parliament following an opposition outcry over an alleged bribery scam that forced the government to resign. ** with dpa BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/6e2k0 Tags: Al Watan, Protest, TV Section: Kuwait, Latest News, Media
