Intersat Africa expands network with new partnership
Published in Bikya Masr on 20 - 01 - 2012

Leading satellite provider Intersat Africa has inked a new partnership with Belgium Satellite Services (BSS) to enhance its offerings and services in the continent. According to a statement, the companies hope to draw on recent investments in new technologies to push into North Africa and the Arab region.
“What we are seeing is that in the post-revolution atmosphere, international companies and African providers see the usefulness of attempting to push into North Africa,” Moroccan communications ministry advisor Youssef Chaheen told Bikyamasr.com. “The market is really open for new technologies and if companies can partner together like this, they could have large new markets.”
BSS, formed following the acquisition of Belgacom's satellite services division in 2007, says on its website that it “provides tailor-made, high-quality satellite networking solutions including hosting and hub services, IP over satellite, and TV and broadcasting solutions from its large technical and operational infrastructure in Europe.”
The idea with the partnership is to join forces under one umbrella, including joint sales, marketing and product development, to increase their customer base and reduce costs for satellite services.
Ajoy Khandheria, Chairman of BSS said in a press statement, “I am very impressed by the organizational capabilities Abdul Bakhrani and his team have built at Intersat and BSS will benefit immensely by adding the capacity to fully provide concept to complete solutions which has been the focus in our telecoms and IT convergence projects in Asia and the Satcom business at a global level”.
Abdul Bakhrani, CEO and co-founder of Intersat, added: “Intersat was built by Africans based on a strong commitment to provide affordable and reliable Internet and communications services. The combination of our two companies will solidify our ability to provide fast, responsive and flexible solutions for our customers in Africa and The Middle East through an enhanced infrastructure, technical development and marketing coverage.”
