Tehran (dpa) – The Iranian cinema foundation Farabi on Monday congratulated Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi for having won an award at the Golden Globes, ISNA news agency reported. Farhadi's family drama “A Separation” won the award for best foreign language film Sunday night at the Golden Globes, the biggest US prize after the Oscars. “We hope that his film will also be among the Academy Award's top five in the category best foreign film and that he will also win the Oscar,” the head of the foundation's international department, Amir Esfandiari, told ISNA. “Farhadi was the first Iranian filmmaker to win the Golden Bear (at last year's Berlin Film festivals) and the first to win a Golden Globe and I am sure that these awards will have positive impacts on the Iranian cinema,” Esfandiari said. Farabi is an institute which supports and sponsors independent and young Iranian filmmakers. The ministry of culture and its cinematic department have not yet reacted on Farhadi's Golden Globe award.
