The first private undersea fiber optic cable for Nigeria and Ghana, operated by Main One Cable Company announced that it would be joining the 14th annual AfricaCom 2011 Congress on November 9 – 10 with an exhibit to promote its activities, company officials said on Monday. Their exhibition, Main One Cable said, would focus on telecom needs across the African continent and its efforts to boost West African Internet and IT capabilities. The event, to take place in South Africa's Cape Town, is the largest telecom, media and ICT event for companies in Africa. Some 5,000 attendees, 650 CEOs and over 1,300 companies from 105 countries are expected. Speaking ahead of the event, Adebayo Oyewole, head of Marketing and Strategy at Main One Cable, said the exhibition “is a platform for telecom industry practitioners in Africa to meet, network, and discuss the latest market developments such as broadband penetration, the pervasiveness of mobile money platforms, and international connectivity and capacity, among other topics in different panel discussions and meetings involving experts from Africa's digital ecosystem.” He added that the event will afford Main One Cable “an opportunity to leverage its bouquet of services that includes IP Internet Access, IP Transit, Colocation, Managed Data Services and wholesale broadband to both large telecom operators, small and medium ISPs and enterprise customers.” BM
