Atos has announced the launch of their latest Technology Operations Centre (TOC), together with London 2012. The new center will be the ‘mission control' for all of the Olympic competition venues. Atos is the IT partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The TOC is responsible for monitoring and controlling the IT systems that deliver the results from all the sports competitions in real time to the world's media. Atos expects to process 30 percent more results data than the previous Olympics held in Beijing, the company said. The TOC is the first phase in the ‘London Prepares Series.' In the words of Atos Iberia Olympics and Major Events CEO Patrick Adiba, the announcement marks a “major technology milestone and demonstrates that we are on target to deliver the London 2012 Games.” The TOC will provide commentators and journalists with touch-screen technology which gives real-time results. Aside from all 26 Olympic sports, there are also five Paralympic sports which have been added to the Commentator Information System provided by the TOC. “Broadcasters will have access both in London and their home countries to the system for all Olympic and 5 Paralympic sports,” Atos said in a statement. Adiba says the TOC will provide accurate, up to date information to the world media in less than one second, ensuring spectators around the world can follow events in real time regardless of location and on any device. Atos believes that by 2012, 8.5 billion smartphones, tablets and computers will be connected t the internet. At full capacity, the TOC will have roughly 450 business technologists covering 180 positions in order to manage and monitor the technology infrastructure. The team will also be responsible for covering the IT security, telecommunications, power and the result systems. The International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge expressed his excitement at the preparations gone in to London 2012. “The IOC is very impressed with the progress of the preparations in London,” said Rogge. According to the London 2012 Chief Executive Paul Deighton, technology and the rapid pace of development are crucial elements to the success of London 2012. “The Games cannot happen without technology and I am delighted that that our London 2012 Technology team together with Atos and the team of technology partners are on track to deliver the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012,” said Deighton.
