CAIRO: The head of the Tour Guide Union of Luxor, Anwar Aboul Magd, told Egyptian newspaper Youm7.com in a special statement that the union is hoping to boost tourism to the southern Egyptian city. After frequent meetings with the Governor of Luxor, Major General Khalid Fouda, the first steps of success are evident, he said. According to the report, a Japanese delegation is expected to arrive to speak with tour operators in Egypt in order to bolster investment with the East Asian country. Aboul Magd said there was another delegation of German tourism investors who will visit the area on July 21. He said the union is thinking of other ways to promote tourism. In related news, Aboul Magd said the union recently celebrated the graduation of a new batch of some 200 tour guides. They have since been introduced to all the tourist attractions and archaeological sites located in the governorate of Luxor and were tested by taking trips to the most important areas, accompanied by veteran guides.
