Testing on animals
Published in Bikya Masr on 02 - 06 - 2010

CAIRO: Often walking into a local supermarket, the hair salon or the spa, it is easy to forget that there are certain questions that need answering. Ethical issues seem to get blurry when in comes to our favorite products. Knowing how this product is made or what was the price of its making is often much higher than the price tag. If you must know, millions of animals are being chemically burned, blinded and abused while we support the companies that use Medieval testing methods on living creatures. Mainstream industrial gurus like Johnson and Johnson and Proctor and Gamble control a large share of the household product market and they are the same companies that test their chemicals and acids on rabbits' eyes. The European Union and Great Britain have banned testing on animals, while the rest of the world, led by the United States is still competent in putting an end to a great ethicle question: what is the real price of my hair conditioner?
Consumers should not be blamed here too much as these tests were an industry's inside matter and they try to make sure that the word does not spread. So here is a list of companies that do test on animals. The next time you are looking for your favorite product, maybe it is time to look a little bit harder.
