National Bank of Egypt (NBE) offered donation package of EGP 1.2 million to Magdi Yacoub Institute for research into the causes and treatment of cardiac disease, among NBE's social responsibility programs in contributing to provide health care free of charge for citizens across Egypt.
NBE said in a statement today that these donations will be allocated to carry out 20 open-heart surgeries for infants in Magdi Yacoub Medical Institute.
Social developmental programs are among NBE's top priorities, as it allocated about EGP 290 million in 2011-2012, to support initiatives related to health care, fighting poverty and increasing education rates across Egypt, in order to affect people directly, so Magdi Yacoub Institute was selected to have first segment of NBE's donations in 2012.
Magdi Yacoub Institute for research into the causes and treatment of cardiac disease aims at providing the best health care services free of charge for cardiac patients in Egypt. Since being established in Aswan in 2009, Magdi Yacoub Institute has carried out many open-heart surgeries mainly for upper Egyptians.
Anissa Hassouna, the Executive Director of Magdi Yacoub's Foundation, received a cheque from NBE with the total value of the donation during the meeting of NBE's higher administration representatives on Thursday February 23rd 2012.
NBE is the leading lender of cooperative loans in Middle East and North Africa as well as the top financer of SMEs in Egypt. NBE's market share exceeds 25%. NBE also offers his services for more than 5 million customers of individuals, institutions and national and international companies through a service centers network encompassing 259 service centers, a 1500-employees team, 428 large branches and more than 1000 ATMs across Egypt.
NBE's total donations of social responsibility registered around EGP 400 million for the period from 2008 to 2012, which is directed to great national projects in order to developing infrastructure for vital sectors such as education, health and culture. NBE donated around EGP 60 million to establish the new Qasr al-Aini Burns & Emergencies Hospital, which will offer high quality treatment in the Middle East in treating burns and emergency cases for Egyptians free of charge.
NBE also contributed by EGP 35 million in equipping Nasr City Educational Hospital, subsidy of Al-Azhar University, which will be the largest medical education center in Egypt. This hospital will offer medical services free of charge for the needy. Regarding education, NBE contributed by EGP 250 million in establishing Zewail City for Science and Technology, which will develop science and education in Egypt and launch Egypt's technology projects through qualifying scientists and laying down the modern bases for technology industry.
As NBE concerned about maintaining Egypt's heritage, it contributed USD 5 million to the Great Egyptian Museum, which displays Egypt's heritage through modern methods and maintains Egypt's monuments with latest scientific methods.
