The number of tourists visiting Egypt dropped by 45 percent in 2016 to 5.1 million compared to 9.3 million during 2015, an official source at Egyptian Tourism Ministry stated Saturday. Speaking to Amwal Al Gahd, the source said that Egypt's tourism revenues during 2016 did not exceed US$2.5 billion versus US$6.1 billion in 2015, declining by more than 50 percent. According to the statistics released by Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA), Egypt's tourism sector attained revenues estimated at US$2 billion in January-October 2016 while the total number of tourists recorded 4.3 million at the same period.
