US, Egyptian, Italian alliances win Maspero Triangle replanning contest
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 09 - 11 - 2015

Egypt has announced Sunday evening U.S. Fosters & Partners, Dar Al-Handasah-U.S. Perkins alliance, and Italia's Stefano Group as winners in the international contest for the urban replanning and architectural design of Maspero Triangle district.
Bordering the River Nile and Egypt's revolutionary epicentre Tahrir Square, the 31 hectare historic slum area in west central Cairo is home to around 14,000 residents.
The goal of this design competition is to inspire a design that will be an exemplary mixed-use urban community, preserves heritage, protects the environment and does not lead to loss of local residents' diversity due to gentrification.
The competition is backed by Egypt's Ministries of Housing and State for Urban Renewal and Informal Settlements as well as the Cairo Governorate.
The International Union of Architects (UIA) has supported the competition and will be represented in the jury by Jose Maria Llop Torne from Spain and Nadia Somekh from Brazil as alternate jury member.
Hill International (NYSE:HIL), the global leader in managing construction risk, was the supplier on the Maspero Triangle contest's Request for Proposal (RFP) documents.
Named after French Egyptologist Gaston Maspero, the neighbourhood features a 240 metre-long river frontage and the landmark headquarters of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union.
