Egypt delivers free medical care for 3.3m people in '22

Egypt provided free-of-charge medical care for over 3.3 million people in 2022, at a total cost of 14.4 billion Egyptian pounds, CAPMAS reported on Sunday.
This represents a substantial 29.7 per cent increase from 2021, where 2.9 million people received similar medical care, with a total cost of 11.1 billion pounds, according to the report.
In 2022, Egypt had a total number of 662 government-run hospitals, down by 0.3 per cent from 664 hospitals in 2021.
Egypt's government-run hospitals operated a total of 88,427 beds in 2022, up by 6.5 per cent, compared to the 83,034 beds available in 2021.
The report showed a 3.3 per cent decrease in the total number of doctors, dropping from 100.7 thousand in 2021 to around 97.4 thousand in 2022.
The number of dentists reached 31.1 thousand in 2022, a five per cent decline from 32.8 thousand dentist in 2021.
On the other hand, the number of nurses rose by 8.4 per cent, reaching 208.3 thousand in 2022 compared to 192.1 thousand in 2021.
In 2022, the total number of health insurance beneficiaries remained steady at 53.7 million. The number of ambulance service centres increased by 2.7 per cent from 1,535 in 2021 to 1,577 in 2022.
