U.S. President Joe Biden will travel to Egypt to take part in the United Nations climate change summit COP27 on November 11, the White House affirmed in a statement on Friday. At COP27, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden would use the climate summit to "build on the significant work the United States has undertaken to advance the global climate fight and help the most vulnerable build resilience to climate impacts." The U.S. president will highlight the need for the world to act "in this decisive decade," the White House statement added. Israeli President Isaac Herzog first disclosed Biden's visit to Egypt during a meeting with the U.S. president in the Oval Office earlier on Wednesday. Biden will then be heading to Cambodia from November 12-13 to take part in the annual U.S.-ASEAN summit and the East Asia Summit, the statement said. Later on, he will visit Indonesia on November 13-16 to participate in a summit of leaders from the Group of 20 major economies, it concluded. The UN climate summit will take place in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on November 6-18. It will focus on climate financing and adaptation to climate change, both key issues for poorer countries more vulnerable to the immediate impacts of global warming and extreme weather events.
