Egyptian premiere soccer league postponed indefinitely

The head of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), Samir Zaher, has announced that the Egyptian premiere football league will be postponed as a result of the riots during an African Champions League match at Cairo Stadium on Saturday.
Hundreds of rioters invaded the pitch when Zamalek (Egypt) played Club Africain (Tunisia), assaulting the referee and several players.
The plan had been to resume the competition -- which is the most popular in the region -- on 13 April.
Zaher told reporters on Sunday that he will meet sports officials to discuss how the league can be resumed at a later date. He revealed that some suggestions include playing the matches on armed forces' pitches, or without fans.
Accompanied by the head of the National Sports Council, Zaher paid an official visit to the Tunisian ambassador to Cairo to apologize for the incident, according to EFA's website. They also visited the Algerian embassy to apologize for Egyptian fans' assault on the Algerian referee.
This is the second postponement for the league, which was planned to be resumed in 28 January, but deferred due to the 25 January revolution that brought down the regime of former President Hosni Mubarak.
