A recent survey conducted by the Egyptian Centre for Public Opinion Research, Basira, has shown that 54 percent of Egyptians are in favour of early presidential elections. Forty-two percent approve of President Mohamed Morsy, and 46 percent disapprove of his performance after 11 months in office. The survey was conducted over the phone on 29 and 30 May, with a sample of 2,051 people aged 18 and older and hailing from all governorates. It also shows that 35 percent of respondents holding a university degree and 46 percent with less than an average education disapprove of Morsy. 30 percent of respondents would re-elect him, the same rate as in last month's survey, and 50 percent would not re-elect him. The survey indicated that young people tend to be in favour of early elections compared to other age groups, with 60 percent of 18-29 year-olds approving such a measure. Fifty-four percent of 30 to 49 year olds, and 48 percent of those 50 and older would welcome early elections as well. Edited translation from MENA
