A crisis erupted among judges on Monday after Egyptian State Council President Mohamed el-Husseini issued a resolution allowing the appointment of female judges to the council, even though the majority of council members voted against such appointments at a 15 February general assembly. Council members are now reportedly calling for an emergency meeting within coming days in hopes of overturning el-Husseini's decree. Members of the State Council Club, for their part, announced that they would begin legal procedures aimed at removing el-Husseini from his position. The president of Egypt's administrative court has also reportedly filed a lawsuit against el-Husseini. Members of parliament's consultative Shura Council, meanwhile, welcomed el-Husseini's decision, which they said grants women their constitutional rights without discrimination.
