The Cairo Airport Police detained a blogger called Wael Abbas for seven hours on his return from Sweden. He was frisked, and his computer was sent to the Censorship Authority. The blogger, who arrived at Cairo Airport yesterday, had launched a scathing attack on the Egyptian government during his participation in the Tallberg political conference in Sweden. Abbas said: “I was detained by security forces after I passed Passport Control. I was frisked, and they took my laptop to send it to the Censorship Authority.” Lawyers of the Arabic Network for Human Rights sent a note to the Attorney-General, demanding an investigation into the incident. Gamal Eid, Director of the Arabic Network for Human Rights, considered Wael's detention and the confiscation of his computer as a clear and new direction on the part of the State to fabricate lawsuits against Egyptian bloggers. He also considered the illegal brutality that the airport security used with Wael as a type of theft and corruption.
