Doha – Some Arab countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, have severed ties with Doha on June 5 over accusations of Qatar's support for terrorism. Accordingly, the groups and offshoots of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group had only two options; either to back Qatar or support the Arab countries and boycott the Gulf emirate. The MB-affiliated groups and offshoots in Yemen and Bahrain issued statements to support the stance of the Arab countries against Qatar. Dr. Mohamed Kamal, professor of political science at Cairo University, said the Yemeni government has not banned MB group due to instability and civil war that affect this Arab country. He told Al-Bawaba News that the Arab countries boycotting Qatar have not demanded that Bahrain should outlaw MB group. Hisham El-Najar, a researcher in Islamic movements' affairs, said that MB groups in Yemen and Bahrain have backed the Arab countries against Doha due to the current temporary situations in both countries. El-Najar added that the MB groups try to act as they work to serve the interests of their countries to look like patriots, although they take such steps as attempts of political maneuvers.
