Cairo - Three militants from armed Islamist group "Hasam Militia" were killed in fire exchange with police forces in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria. According to a statement from Egypt's Interior Ministry, security forces launched a raid on the hotbeds of the militia, stating that its topmost leaders were shot dead during the raid. Called Hasam, Arabic for "decisiveness" or "determination," the militia claimed responsibility for a Sunday attack in the southern outskirts of Cairo, leaving one police officer dead and another four wounded. A roadside bomb, which was buried by the side of the highway of the Maadi Autostrad Rd., went off as the vehicle carrying the police personnel passed by. "We struck once again deep into Cairo, after having warned earlier," the terrorist group announced on its official Facebook page. It also claimed responsibility for an assassination attempt of the former Grand Mufti of Egypt Ali Gomaa last year. Jihadists and terrorist organizations have been carrying out attacks on police and army forces since the ousting of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
