Cairo - Egyptian Islamic researcher Ahmed Abdou Maher blamed different state bodies, including Al-Azhar for the current increasing extremism witnessed in the country. Maher added, "If Salafi (conservative Islamic approach) ideas dominated Egypt, it is not the responsibility of only the Islamic institution of Azhar." He added: Has Azhar presented a book promoting its moderate approach? The answer is No. Even professors of Azhar University launched appeals to reform the educational content taught in the educational institutes related to Egypt's Islamic institution. Azhar is considered the major Islamic Sunni institution, not only in Egypt but also in the Middle East. It performs a major role to promote the ideas of Sunni Islam through its university and the educational missions it sends across the world.
