A number of eyewitnesses said Sunday, a terrorist blew himself up inside St. George church in the city of Tanta, Gharbia governorate, leaving 26 people dead and 75 others wounded. Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said in a statement to reporters at the cabinet headquarters in Cairo, the government condemns the bombing of the church and all terrorist acts, stressing the state will continue its efforts to eliminate terrorism. The Prime Minister explained, the government will provide all forms of support to the victims of the terrorist incident, adding he is following up the latest developments of the attack with all parties concerned. Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Pope Francis condemned the terrorist attack. Hariri wrote on his official twitter account, "I extend condolences to President Sisi, Pope Tawadros II and the Egyptian people on the victims of the heinous terrorist attack on the Coptic Church in Tanta at Palm Sunday." He continued: "I repeat that terrorism has no religion, as it is an attack on the values of all religions starting with our Islamic religion. Egypt will prevail and the will of living together as one will prevail." Pope Francis expressed his "deep condolences to my brother, Pope Tawadros II, the Coptic church and all of the dear Egyptian nation," asking God "to convert the hearts of those who spread terror, violence and death, and also the hearts of those who make, and traffic in, weapons." The explosion occurred during Palm Sunday celebrations holiday, which the government gives as a holiday for Copts, as most of them go to churches to pray.
