Cairo - Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdy Sanad Louza and Assistant Foreign Minister Mohamed Idris held a series of meetings with a number of African deputy ministers and other senior officials on the sidelines of a workshop on the Great Lakes, currently hosted in Cairo. The two-way meetings, held at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry headquarters, involved the DRC's deputy foreign minister, the Tanzanian deputy foreign minister, the permanent secretary of Burundi's foreign ministry, the UN envoys to the Great Lakes and Burundi, the executive secretary of International Conference of the Great Lakes Region and the chairperson of the African Organisation of African Youth (OAY). The meetings addressed ways to face security and political challenges in the Great Lakes region, among other regional issues of mutual concern, and means of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and countries in the region in a number of fields, including training, health, education agriculture, water resources management, judiciary and media.
