Murad .. from college to Syria "Mahmoud Murad " was a student at Al-Azhar University's faculty of mass communication, born and lived in Port Said. He worked at Yqeen (Pro-Islamists Youtube channel), before joining IS in Syria. One of his former colleagues said that Murad was influenced by Jihadi Salafi prominent figures in Port Said, including 'Tawfiq Al-Afny', who spent 18 years in prison during the era of former President 'Hosni Mubarak' and was later released in the aftermath of January 25 revolution, before being arrested again in December 2013. However, Murad was not fully convinced of those figures, but the events that followed January 25 revolution has led him to support terrorist groups, as he opted to join IS in Syria. For his part, Al-Grable and Murad's former colleague Ahmad Fikri, who is currently living abroad, said that he could not say for sure if the university had contributed in the direction taken by both of his former colleagues, adding that most of religious young people have a tendency to support the idea of change through violent means, especially after the recent events that took place in Egypt.
