Egypt announced on Sunday bringing into force a law that emphasizes sanctions on Female genital mutilation (FGM). The law toughens penalties to imprisonment of two years to a maximum of 15 years in case of the victim's death or permanent disability happened to her The new law aims to reduce deaths in young people during these operations banned since 2008 but still a lot of Egyptians, especially in the rural areas they believe are necessary to preserve the chastity. Egypt's health ministry announced they will monitor and oversee clinics and private hospitals to enforce the anti-FGM law that came into effect last Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement. Around 96.6% of females in Egypt have been circumcised, according to a study conducted by the 2000 National Population Council, included women and from 15 to 49 years.
