Editor in chief of Al Bawaba News and MP, Abdul Rahim Ali issued Tuesday a statement, commenting on decision of Parliament Office Authority, headed by Ali Abdel Aal to reject request to lift Ali's parliamentary immunity. The decision comes as a result of not meeting the required conditions, Al Bawaba News reported. Ali said that he has done his duty as a journalist in exposing the fifth column and hidden cadres of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) terrorist group, prompting MB to plot revenge against him and his family, through filing lawsuits against him, using fake names. MP pointed out that the most recent lawsuit filed against him was a lawsuit filed by an individual who accused Al Bawaba News of insulting him. Ali explained that he kept exposing the fifth column and hidden cadres of MB throughout the rule of ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, whom Ali accused of being a spy. The editor in chief stressed that he continued performing his duty as a journalist and kept exposing the fifth column and hidden cadres of MB, even after the Egyptian people succeeded in overthrowing Morsi on June 30, 2013. He clarified that as a result, the MB and its allies plotted revenge against him and his family, as well as Al Bawaba News, of which he is its editor in chief. Furthermore, he pointed out that MB is responsible for the attack on his office at Al Bawaba News by 35 gunmen who had automatic weapons, in an attempt to kill or kidnap him, and terrorize the rest of the journalists and researchers within the Al Bawaba News institution. However, he stressed that the attack only made the institution more resilient and determined to face the MB and its allies. Ali stressed that the MB had continued with its plots, as it tasked a number of its lawyers to file lawsuits using fake names or the names of citizens who do not exist inside the country to file these lawsuits by forged trust receipts in large amounts of money. He pointed out that the security services uncovered these plots and put those responsible to trial, but the MB and its allies did not give up, as they attempted to assault him outside Egypt. MP revealed that he had filed a complaint in countries, such as Netherlands and France, after the MB plotted to assault him there, adding that the perpetrators were arrested. He highlighted that the MB has opted for defamation against him on social network websites and TV channels loyal to them. Moreover, he stressed that the MB has filed more than 20 libel cases against him, but he was acquitted from all of them, praising the justice shown by the Egyptian judiciary. Ali concluded his statement by thanking Abdel Aal and Parliament Office Authority for rejecting request to lift his parliamentary immunity.
