Sudan has repeated its claim on Monday over the two disputed regions of Halayeb and Shalateen along Egypt's southern border, the Cairo-based al-Ahram daily reported. "We will not let go of our sovereign rights to the Halayeb Triangle," Sudan's Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour told the country's parliament. Sudan making the claim over the two regions comes after Egypt and Saudi Arabia inked a deal in April where Cairo would recognize Saudi's sovereignty over the two Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir. Ghandour said Sudan is planning to get a copy of the Egypt-Saudi deal to "gauge the impact of the agreement on [Sudan's] maritime borders." He added: "We have adopted legal and political measures to assert our rights to the Halayeb Triangle." Following the Egypt-Saudi deal, Cairo said the Halayeb and Shalateen situation was "totally different" than that of the Red Sea islands.
