Army's counter-terrorism forces intensified efforts Friday to secure northern Sinai governorate ahead of parliamentary elections' second phase, Cairo News reported. The forces launched several security raids in the cities of Rafah, Sheikh Zuwaid and Al Arish upon information that Islamic State offshoot Wilayat Sinai was planning to disrupt the electoral process by targeting poll stations using car bombs. The raids killed three Wilayat Sinai militants and arrested 43 others in south of Rafah and Sheikh Zuwaid. The army also arrested 56 Wilayat Sinai militants in Al Arish and Bir Al Abed district. The forces also located and successfully detonated five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in different parts of Sheikh Zuwaid and Al Arish by firing at them from a safe distance.
