Published in Albawaba on 19 - 10 - 2015

The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has sent a 14th aid plane carrying 75 tonnes of food supplies and medicines to Yemen's Socotra Island to help the Yemeni people.
The humanitarian initiative was in response to directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. It is being followed up by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Foundation.
An official source at the Foundation said, "The plane left Sharjah International Airport today morning for Socotra as part of the UAE's efforts to provide emergency aid to the brotherly Yemeni people suffering shortages caused by the unfortunate developments."
The source noted that the cargo which includes 64 tonnes of food supplies and 11 tonnes of medicines will be delivered to hospitals in Socotra and other Yemeni governorates to help Yemenis in these difficult circumstances.
Since the onset of the crisis in Yemen, and in response to instruction by the wise leaders, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation was quick to provide emergency food and medical supplies to Yemenis.
In June, the Foundation created an air bridge and a sea bridge to Yemen and has since operated 13 flights and sent two ships carrying 450 tonnes and 7000 tonnes of food and medical supplies, respectively, to the Yemeni people.
