Egypt's Ambassador in Jordan, Khaled Tharwat confirmed on Sunday that the embassy does not accept prejudice or assault on the dignity of any Egyptian worker in a private kingdom, Al-Bawaba News reported. Tharwat added that Egyptian workers contribute significantly to the growth of the Jordanian economy. This came as a response to the reported attack on Jordanian citizens, accompanied by one of the members of the Jordanian House of Representatives yesterday, where they severely hit an Egyptian worker at a restaurant in the city of Aqaba. The ambassador said in a statement to the Middle East News Agency (MENA) in Amman, "The embassy in Amman, and the Egyptian consulate in Aqaba have been pursuing the incident continuously, and the embassy stands behind its citizens, support them, and do everything in its power to ensure their rights," adding, "We have conducted a telephone conversation with the Egyptian worker to check on his health, and to assure him that the embassy is siding with him." He continued, "We have contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the affairs of Jordanian expatriates to inform them of the incident, and emphasize on the importance of, and the speed of completion of the investigations, and the arrest of the accused, as well as with the head of the Jordanian House of Representatives Engineer Atef Tarawneh." On the other hand, Egypt's Consul in Aqaba Riaz Ahmed told the Agency over the phone, "We have visited the Egyptian worker at the hospital to check on his health, and are following an ongoing basis with the Jordanian officials in Aqaba for the law to take its course against these people."
