Britain's most notorious Islamist hate preacher Anjem Choudary has been arrested for inviting support for the Islamic State. He is being charged along with another man. Specifically, the court is focusing on lectures he published online. Choudary has long been a leading proponent of Islamism in the UK, drawing controversy for extremist statements such as "I don't affiliate with things like democracy and freedom. My set of values and principles arise from Islam." In the past he refused to condemn the 7/7 bombings or Islamic State beheadings. His group, then called Muslims Against Crusades, first rose to national prominence after publicly burning poppies (a symbol of memorial for deceased soldiers commonly worn on and around November 11) at funerals of British soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan. An investigation found Anjem Choudary's organization, Al Muhajiroun, was linked to half of the Islamist terrorist attacks planned or carried out against the UK over the past 20 years. He was arrested last year but released on bail. This arrest is charging him separately after a lengthy police investigation.
