Egyptian Army Forces Supreme Council issued a statement, shortly, regarding the terrorist attacks that took place earlier on Wednesday in North Sinai, Al Bawaba News reported. At 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday, terrorist groups simultaneously attacked a number of military checkpoints in Sheikh Zuwaid and Rafah areas using booby-trapped vehicles and different weapons, the statement read. Security personnel were able to deal with the terrorist elements; aborted all terrorist attempts and thwarted achieving their objectives, the statement added. Armed forces in North Sinai backed by Air Forces were able to detect and chase terrorist elements and destroyed their gathering areas, killing at least 100 and wounding dozens others, the statement added, confirming the destruction of 20 vehicles used by these criminal elements. The whole area is currently being combed. These criminal operations left 17 killed, including 4 officers, and other 17 injured including one officer. The statement reassured Egyptian people that armed forces are leading a fierce war against terrorism, confirming the military has the will and determination to root out this black terrorism and that they would not stop until they purge Sinai of all terrorist outposts.
