Egypt received Tuesday the French FREMM frigate in order to strengthen security measures in Suez Canal, Youm7 News reported. The frigate was handed to Egypt's Minister of Defense, Sedki Sobhi during a ceremony at a marine base in France's Lorient city, in the presence of his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian. Le Drian said that the frigate handing over to Egypt will boost the relations between the two countries, adding that France praises the Egypt's efforts to ensure the security of the region. On his part, Sobhi said that this the frigate will allow to the Egyptian naval forces to achieve more security and stability, praising the Egyptian and French forces cooperation. On Feb. 12, Egypt signed with France a $5.7 billion deal to receive naval frigate, 24 Rafale fighter jets and missiles. FREMM is a multipurpose anti-aircraft warfare, anti-ballistic missile and surface attack frigate, which includes a helicopter landing pad (helipad) and a surface-to-air missiles.
