Cairo criminal court sentenced Sunday 23 defendants to 14 years in prison, and acquits eight others in the case of killing the Shiite clerk Hassan Shehata and three other Shiites in 2013. State media reported. The incidents took place in in Giza's Zawyat Abu Musalam village, when Salafist sheikhs attacked the Shiite residents in the area and killed four citizens including Shehata who was visiting relatives in the village. The video of the incident was circulated online, revealing one of the victims being dragged and beaten to death, along with several members of the Shiite community, whom were stabbed multiple times in a brutal incident of public lynching.
