Medical and security sources announced Wednesday seven police personnel were injured, some of them seriously, as an improvised explosive device (IED) hit an armored vehicle in Al-Arish city, North Sinai, Al Bawaba News reported. Colonel Ahmed El Said was critically wounded and got his leg amputated; colonel Moetaz Sedik had severe brain concussion. Captains Ibrahim Shazly, 30, Mostafa Moaz, 28, and abdel Khalek Shurra, 28 had strong bruises in the back. police sergeants Abdel Moneim Abdel Halim, 36, and Wael Radwan, 36, got their arms broken, the sources said. The seven injured were transferred to Al-Arish military hospital for treatment. Security forces are currently sweeping the whole area in pursuit of the assailants, the sources added. The Sinai Peninsula has been home to deadly blasts since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi July 2013, prompting the military to adopt a new anti-terror strategy including the construction of a buffer zone on eastern borders with the Islamist run Gaza Strip.
