Port Said Criminal Court resumed Tuesday, the appeals hearing of 73 defendants, including nine policemen, accused of killing Al Ahly Football Club Fans in 2012 in the case publicly known as the "Port Said Massacre", Al Bawaba News reported. The defendants, charged with killing fans of the most prominent football club in Egypt during a match in the coastal city of Port Said February 2012, had received death sentences, life in prison and 15-year prison terms.
The prosecution accused the Port Said security directorate top chiefs of closing the Stadium gates to facilitate the killing of Ultras Ahlawy (Official League of Al Ahly Club Fans), causing the death of 74 fans. The court dropped all charges against 7 policemen.
