Military Apache Helicopters launched Thursday air strikes against militants' positions in north Sinai, killing at least eight Wilayet Sinai militants and wounding six others, according to security reports. Security sources, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the air strikes targeted a group of militants on motorbikes holding the black flags of Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, in Al obeidat village, southern Sheikh Zuweid. At least 20 other militants were purportedly captured amid fierce gun battles with military forces in Arish and Sheikh Zuweid. The Egyptian army has launched a wide range military campaign against the Sinai-based Wilayat Sinai terrorist group, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
