Dialogue better than war of words, Turkish PM suggests to Egypt
Turkey and Egypt should come together and discuss ways to find a mutual understanding on their different points of view, the Turkish prime minister has said, describing the importance of the Arab country as "the backbone of the Middle East."
"I want to underline: Egypt is the backbone of the region. The region's stability will be resilient if Egypt is strong. There will be problems in the region if Egypt is in trouble. This is how we think; they either accept it or they don't," Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said in an address to opinion-makers from various Arab countries at a meeting late Jan. 21 in Davos.
Egypt can only find stability by acquiring legitimacy through the free will of the country's people, Davutoğlu said.
The prime minister underlined that Turkey would never recognize the military coup in Egypt out of "respect for its own values."

Egyptian Families Plead for Help for the Forgotten ISIS Hostages
At least 21 Egyptian Christians are being held by ISIS in Libya Relatives of the abducted are unhappy with what they say is an inadequate response from the Egyptian government. At a news conference in Cairo, loved ones said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had confirmed that the men were alive and pledged to help the victims, but offered few specifics. One family said it had been told not to speak to the media.
"We have a lack of information from our side, from the government," said Mina Thabet a researcher at the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, a local rights group, who interviewed several of the families and survivors of past kidnappings. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs just makes statements.
They say ‘We're trying to do our best. We're communicating with the Libyan authorities.' They never give us solutions."

Egypt's President Says Islam Needs a Reboot
Islam needs a reboot as Egypt and France battle the same enemy by waging war against Islamic extremism and terrorism, Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said Thursday.
It's a tolerant religion, he said, but in the past two to three decades it has become more associated with violent extremism.
"The terrible terrorist attacks which we have seen and this terrible image of Muslims is what led us to think that we must stop and think and change the religious discourse, and remove from it things that have led to violence and extremism," El-Sissi said.
"We need a new discourse that will be adapted to a new world and will remove some of the misconceptions," he said. "No one should believe that they have the truth with a capital T."
