Three of Egypt's football teams advanced to the quarter-finals of African club championships, writes Abeer Anwar In their African Champions League second round, second leg tie on Friday, Ahli started the winning week by overpowering Kenya's Tusker FC 3-0 in Cairo to win 5-0 on aggregate to qualify to the quarter-final in a successful defence debut of the title they hope to win for a record fifth time. Osama Hosni opened the scoring with a close-range header in the 25th minute. A penalty kick for Tusker could have tied the score in the second half but the goalkeeper's shot was saved by Ahli goalie Amir 10 minutes before game time. Wa'el Riyad and Mohamed Abdel-Wahab made no mistake to finish Tusker off. In the same championship, Sudanese side Al-Hilal overcame Enungu Rangers of Nigeria 4-0 on Friday to win the tie 4-1 on aggregate. South African club Mamelodi Sundowns were eliminated from the Champions League on Sunday after being held to a 2-2 draw at home to USCAFOOT of Madagascar in a second round, second leg tie. Equatorial Guinea's Renaicemento beat Stade Malien of Mali 1-0 at home to reach the third round on the away goals rule, after the first leg ended 2-1. 1998 champions Asec Mimosas of the Ivory Coast also qualified after securing a 1-0 away victory over the Namibian club Civics to win the tie 4-0 on aggregate. Former champions Enyimba of Nigeria also secured a place after beating the Senegalese side ASC Jaraaf 2- 0 on Sunday. Ghana's Kumasi Asante Kotoko made it to the third round after their 2-1 home win over Ferroviario Maputo of Madagascar. South Africa's Orlando Pirates reached the third round of the competition after thrashing AS Port Louis of Mauritius 4-0 in Potchefstroom to qualify 9-0 on aggregate. Morocco's Royal Armed Forces beat APR FC of Rwanda 1-0 in the second leg of their tie in Rabat on Saturday. Coton Sport drew goalless with St Eloi Lupopo while DC Motema Pembe overcame CS Sfaxien 1-0. Hearts of Oak beat St George 2-0 as the match was stopped in first half. ESS beat AS Polisi 3-0. J. Sportive de Kabylie overcame Zanaco 3-0 and Raja beat Interstars 7-0. In the third edition of the CAf Confederation Cup, Alexandria's Ittihad comfortably beat Rwanda's Rayon Sport 3-0 to go to the quarter-finals. Rayon had won the first leg 1-0. Ittihad attacked from the first minute to score two goals in the first half through Mohamed Farouk and Samuel in the 17th and 38th minutes. In the second half, Farouk added a third. Haras El-Hedoud, also of Alex, could not emulate their 6-0 trouncing of Guinea's Kaloum, settling instead for a 1-0 victory in the second leg in Guinea to sail safely into the CAF quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
