Clarifying Fan ID
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 13 - 06 - 2019

WITH many fans around the African continent still confused about the idea of receiving the Fan ID and then buying tickets, CAF, the Confederation of African Football, explained the procedures in more detail.
According to CAF officials, the FAN ID allows fans to buy their tickets and have access to the stadiums when they purchase their tickets on the website www.tazkarti.com.
Fan ID is a unique identification document used to identify a fan registered in the tazkarti system. It is your laissez-passer to stadiums. It is an effective method to achieve the safety of the fans, allowing identifying them in the stadium.
Fan IDs assigned to persons from other countries are not a substitution for an entry visa to Egypt. Fans from other countries have to apply for an entry visa to Egypt as per the rules applied to citizens of these countries. Egyptian embassies and consulates have been instructed to facilitate the procedures required to obtain a visa through Egyptian embassies in the countries participating in the tournament.
Fans must apply for a Fan ID to be able to book tickets and attend matches. It's free, but you can receive your Fan ID only after purchasing your first ticket. In order to print or receive your Fan ID, one must first purchase a ticket. Afterwards, they can receive their Fan ID with their first ticket from any of the authorised outlets.
Fans will receive their Fan ID in the same way they received their ticket. In case of selecting to receive the ticket via home delivery, fans will receive their Fan ID with it, too. Fan IDs should be received before 16 June. The tournament starts 21 June.
In case of losing a Fan ID, it can only be reprinted once from any of the authorised outlets after presenting a valid national ID or passport. To make the process easier, it is possible to delegate someone to receive the Fan ID by authorising someone else to receive it from an authorised outlet, whether this person has a Fan ID or not. However, purchasing the first ticket is a must to be eligible for a Fan ID.
Underage children from three to 16 cannot register for a Fan ID by themselves. However, an adult from their family could register for a Fan ID as their dependent, and after approving the request, he or she can add the underage as a dependent. After approving the dependent's request, tickets can be booked, bought and collected. Importantly, adults must have a valid national ID if they are Egyptians, or both the underage and the adult family member must have valid passports from their country if they are foreigners.
After receiving the Fan ID number and password, one has to use the Fan ID number and password to sign in to tazkarti to start their experience with TOTAL AFCON, Egypt 2019.
After signing in for the first time, you are requested to create a new password for your account and to provide some additional information. Afterwards, you can add your dependents and book tickets.
Tickets can then be collected from different outlets according to the category of the tickets purchased or can order home delivery.
Officials have also warned tickets holders of the importance of having both the Fan ID and the ticket together when entering the stadium. A fan must have the two together for security checks in order to enter the stadium. Failing to present both at the entrance gates will not allow you in. Tickets can only be used in the name of the purchaser. Tickets cannot be sold or lent to another person other than the Fan ID holder.
The Fan ID is not just a gate for travelling but a gate to enter any of the six venues of the Egypt 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Social media outlets have been an outlet where Egyptians and foreigners celebrate receiving their Fan ID and tickets. Many pictures can be seen of families donning the Fan ID around their necks and the tickets in their hands.
The Fan ID is being applied for the first time in an Africa Cup of Nations event.
