Ahli became the first team to book a place in the African Champions League semi-finals after edging CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, Abeer Anwar reports Egyptian defending champions Ahli became the first club to advance to the semi-finals of the African Champions League after beating CS Sfaxien of Tunisia 2-1 in Cairo on Saturday. With a total of 10 points, Ahli top Group A, one point ahead of Sfaxien. Mohamed Abu Treika opened the scoring with a direct kick in the 29th minute and Angolan Flavio doubled the score 10 minutes later with a powerful close-range header. Sfaxien scored their first goal with five minutes left and were about to add an equaliser in stoppage time. Sfaxien need just one point from their last Group A match at home to Asante Kotoko of Ghana on Sunday to go through to the semi- finals. JS Kabylie of Algeria host Ahli in their last group game on Sunday. Kotoko are still in the competition after a 2-1 home win over JS Kabylie. Kotoko were forced to come from behind after conceding a third minute goal but two strikes from Ghana international Nana Arhin Duah ensured the win. Defeat for Kabylie shattered their dreams of being in final four, although they did have several good opportunities. Kotoko play their final match away at CS Sfaxien of Tunisia on Sunday. In Group B, Ivorian side Asec hammered Orlando Pirates of South Africa 4-0 to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Foneye Die struck on either side of half-time to set the home side on their way in the Group B encounter. Defender Dacosta Akes Goore and substitute Koffi Konan added two more goals to complete the resounding victory. Pirates had to play the last 30 minutes down to 10 men after substitute Jabu Pule was sent off for a studs-high tackle . Asec's win took them up to 11 points, three ahead of Enyimba of Nigeria with one round left to play. Enyimba also beat Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the other Group B match in Aba. Pirates dropped to third in the group bust can still make the semi-finals if they beat Enyimba in their last group match in Johannesburg on Saturday.
