“Roznama 5” is a periodical, not necessarily regular, competition and exhibition of contemporary visual art by aspiring young Egyptians, organized by Medrar for Contemporary Arts, Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art, and SOMA Art School and Gallery. The competition's objective is to encourage creative contemporary artists, which are distinguished from the classical forms taught at art academies. This is achieved through providing a space for experimentation, research, and mixed media and multimedia production. “Roznama 5” also takes interest in traditional art forms, such as painting, sculpting, and avant-garde photography. It aspires to become a platform that presents distinguished art works, introducing artists from Egypt and supporting them by all possible means. Among other participating artists: Ahmed Mohsen, Ahmed Sorour, Ahmed Tawfik, Amany Nabil, Amira Al-Badry, Dalia Al Rashidi, Ibrahim Almoly, Eman Hamdy, Hadeer Omar, Hend Moaaz, Iman Ibrahim, Maged Al-Sokkary, Mahmoud Al-Attar, Malak Yacout, Mariam Salem, Marwa Abdel-Moneim, Mohamed Hammam, Mona Essam, Mustafa Al-Husseiny, Zeina Medwar. Sorour's artwork entitled,“Stopper”is a small 3D-printed grey sculptural object which looks like a dog's muzzle. Abdel-Moniem shows an evocative series of paintings named “Multiple Angles” which is made up of a single portrait of a woman along with portraits of different life shapes. The competition awards include a solo exhibition presented by Medrar, three months residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France, photography prize presented by Contemporary Image Collective Centre (CIC), LE 5,000 presented by Gypsum gallery, LE5,000 presented by Mashrabia gallery, as well as LE5,000 collective prize presented by the artists: Mohamed Abla, Shady El Noshokaty, Hany Rashed, Hala Elkoussy and Huda Lotfy. “Roznama 5” is supported by Peacock, and Yunus Emre Institute (Turkish Cultural Centre in Cairo).
