“Sunshines”, is a group exhibition of six female artists including Reem Saad, Fadwa Ramadan, Maha George,Mervat Shazli, Nadia Tawfiq and Hala Shafaai currently on display at Grant gallery. The six artists show their newest creations in the field of oil paintings and mixed media, however, with each one using in her very own style and technique. Mervat Shazli gained her fame as the lover of the folk motifs in general. And, in particular she focuses on Nubian art and symbols. She came up with new forms and compositions depicted on canvas in a very simple and rather naïve style. Her inspirations are not only driven from the absolute imagination or the mere chance but also from the rich Nubian art heritage. Her style is also influenced by the popular surrealist dimensions using elements from the drama such as the Nubian women, the bird that reminds the viewer with the nightingale, the sad song of the blackbird using dark colours, such as the different shades of brown, beige and blue through which she recalls the Egyptian spirit and stresses the meaning of difference and uniqueness with an expressionist touch. Fadwa Ramadan worked as a freelance art critic in Alsharq Alawsat daily newspaper and she published her articles on art in many Egyptian magazines such Akhbar Al Adab, Ebda'a, Al-Hilal, and Nisf el Donia. She received the State Creativity Award for art criticism by the Egyptian Academy in Rome 2003 and again in 2004. She studied art history in Italy. She held a number of solo exhibitions at the Cairo Atelier in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2008 and the Egyptian Cultural Centre in Paris, 2009. She participated in group shows such as the Cairo Youth Salon in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, the 10th Bangladesh Biennale 2001, Alicante exhibition in Spain 2007, Torino book fair exhibition – Italy 2009, 2014 and Algeria Fine Arts Festival in 2009.
