This week's review is a continuation of the coverage ofShaabiat (folklore), Duroub gallery's annual group exhibition showcasing artworks created in different art media and techniques. It showcases works by around 60 artists and some of the early works of the late pioneer artists such as Sabri Ragheb, well known as the master of the art of portraiture. It covers different art domains such as oil painting, aquarelle, graphic, pottery, 3D objects, jewellery and calligraphy. Among the participants are: Ahmed Badawi, Iman Hakim, Hanan Youssef, Samir Fouad, Sabri Ragheb, Abdel-Fattah Al-Badri, Mohamed Sabri, Maye Heshmat, Youssri Al-Mamluk and Hassan Rashed. Sabri Raghebwas most likely Egypt's best-known portraitist and still-life painter, having painted a number of local and international celebrities such as the late President Gamal Abdel-Nasser and Al-Ahram Weekly's Founding Editor-in-Chief, the late Hosny Guindy. And, Ragheb's paintings were always sold out. His wife and a particular anonymous young woman have been the subject of his attention and paintings for many years. Ragheb didn't stay far from the impressionistic school where his brush was totally immersed in the light to capture the moments of brilliant light and create his very own and new style overwhelmed by his dreams and passions that are mixed with nature, beauty and softness. He never followed one main style but his art was changeable according to the change in time and place and even his mood. He even didn't use to draw a portrait of a person whether male or female whom he can't feel spiritually relaxed with. The exhibition runs through 30 September.
