Rising Egyptian tennis player Sandra Samir, 17, won the singles title at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women's Future tournament in Sharm El-Sheikh. Held from 3-9 August in the JolieVille Maritim Golf and Resort Tennis Club in Sharm El-Sheikh, and with total money prize $10,000, the tournament had players from 18 countries -- Egypt, Oman, the US, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Slovenia, Russia, Italy, Austria, France, Pakistan, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, Ireland and India. In the women's singles final, Egyptian seed No 4 in the tournament Samir beat French seed No 5 Victoria Muntean 6-1, 6-2. Ireland's Jenny Claffey had her dreams of winning the tournament dashed after Samir defeated her 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the semi-final match. Muntean had defeated Omani Fatma Al-Nabhani 6-2, 7-6 (1) in the semi-final. “The semi and final matches were not easy at all. My match against Claffey took a long time. Plus the weather was too hot. We started to play our matches around 5pm,” Samir said. Samir was 607 in the world rankings after the tournament. She is now 511. Claffey currently lies 929 in the world rankings. Claffey had an easy win against Ukrainian Kateryna Sliusar, beating her 6-1, 6-2 in the first round. In her second round match against Indian Sowjanya Bavisetti, Claffey won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Bavisetti is 609th in the world single rankings and was second seed in the tournament. In the quarter-final, Claffey defeated Czech's Natalie kallmunzerova 6-2, 6-4. In the women's doubles, Russians Kseniia Bekker and Elina Nepliy won gold medals after beating Swede Anette Munozova and French Victoria Muntean 6-2, 7-5 in the final. In the semi-final, Munozova and Muntean defeated Russian Varvara Kuznetsova and Slovenian Natalija Sipek 6-3, 6-0. Bekker and Nepliy beat German Anastasia Reimchen and Pakistaini Ushna Suhail 6-7(5), 6-4 [12-10].
