ROGER Federer has won his third Australian Open and 10th Grand Slam title. The Swiss beat Chilean Fernando Gonzalez 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 6-4 and now holds three of the four Grand Slam titles, with only the French Open missing. The victory over Gonzalez saw Federer become the first man since Bjorn Borg at the 1980 French Open to win a Grand Slam tournament without dropping a set. He is also the first man to win three of the Grand Slam events on at least three occasions each. He is now one title away from joining Borg and Rod Laver on 11 Grand Slam tournament wins. Serena Williams demolished top seed Maria Sharapova in a one-sided final to win her third Australian Open and eighth Grand Slam title. The unseeded American's speed and power overwhelmed Russian Sharapova 6-1 6-2 in one hour two minutes. Victory caps a remarkable comeback for Williams, who slipped to 81 in the rankings after a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old will move up to 14 in the world next week, while 19-year-old Sharapova will regain the number one spot. Williams is the first unseeded woman to win the title since Chris O'Neill in 1978 and only the second ever. Sharapova was able to hold a couple of service games to make the score slightly more respectable but Williams was never threatened, sealing victory with a backhand winner before falling to the floor in celebration. Williams dedicated the win to her half-sister Yetunde Price, who was shot dead in Los Angeles in 2003. Zimbabwe's Cara Black and South Africa's Liezel Huber won the women's doubles crown with a 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-1 victory over Taiwan's rising talents Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang. They became the first players from Taiwan to reach the final. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated American Madison Brengle in straight sets in the junior women's final to become the first junior in four years to defend her title. Canadian Daniel Nestor and Russian Elena Likhovtseva won the mixed doubles title with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Belarus pair Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka. Bob and Mike Bryan won the men's doubles title with victory over Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi. The American twins, 28 year-olds, beat Sweden's Bjorkman and Mirnyi of Belarus 7-5 7-5 in 93 minutes in Rod Laver Arena. Scotland's Graeme Dyce and Harri Heliovaara won the junior doubles final. The pair claimed 6-2 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 victory over Australia's Stephen Donald and India's Rupesh Roy. Dyce is the first Briton since Andy Murray, winner of the US Open junior singles title in 2004, to claim a junior slam title.
